Hudak, City Mana� April 14, 2023 lf' �r > DATE: SUBJECT: Art in Public Places Conservation -obstinate lighthouse (2012) The purpose of this letter to the Mayor and Commission is to inform you that conservation and restoration work on Tobias Rehberger, obstinate lighthouse (2012) has been completed by RLA Conservation of Art and Architecture. Located in South Pointe Park, the sculpture is just over a decade old and was exhibiting corrosion spots, faded paint and delamination on the bottom 2" of each cylindrical element. During the six week project, the following conservation treatments were performed: •Document treatment in detail with a written report andphotographs of the artwork before, during, and aftertreatment.•Clean the entire surface with water and a conservationgrade detergent.•Lessen scuffmarks and abrasions on the base with acombination of conservation grade solvents andcompounding agents.•Remove corrosion and all bubbling paint locally. Applyan appropriate primer and fill the losses on top of theprimer.•Scarify the paint layer to produce an appropriate toothfor accepting new paint.•Remove mineralization occurring beneath the paintedlayer.•Prime approximately 50% of the artwork•Repaint the entire artwork, using the paint systemspecified by the artist.•All work coordinated in close collaboration with Tobias Rehberger studio The restoration project was completed on schedule and was made possible by the assistance of various City Departments including Building, Facilities and Fleet Management, Parks and Recreation and Communications.
