SUBJECT: MBPD Officer Hector Guzman Recognized by Florida's Attorney General
This Letter to the Mayor and City Commission is to inform you that Miami Beach Police Officer
Hector Guzman will be receiving a special tribute award during National Crime Victims' Week by
Florida's Attorney General Ashley Moody. Officer Guzman will be honored on April 26, 2023,
during a ceremony at the State Capitol in Tallahassee.
In March of 2022, Officer Guzman was made aware of inappropriate and potential criminal activity
between a former substitute teacher and students at a local school. Officer Guzman immediately
acted, initiating an investigation with multiple law enforcement agencies, including MBPD, Miami-
Dade Schools Police and the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office. The subject was ultimately
arrested and faced several serious charges.
Officer Guzman's exceptional dedication and service to our community have not gone unnoticed,
and we are proud to see him being recognized for his efforts. He has demonstrated a strong
commitment to ensuring the safety and protection of our residents and helping victims of crime in
their time of need.
National Crime Victims' Week is recognized from April 23 to April 29, 2023. It raises awareness
for victims of crime and acknowledges the vital role that law enforcement plays in providing
support and advocacy for victims. Officer Guzman's contribution to this effort is truly outstanding,
and it is an honor to see him being recognized on a statewide level for his hard work and
dedication.
We want to congratulate Officer Guzman and express gratitude for his service to our community.
It is individuals like Officer Guzman who make Miami Beach safer.
