UPDATE ON THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
TRAFFIC ANALYSIS OF THE RECOMMENDED SOUTHBOUND DUAL
RIGHT TURN LANES AT THE INTERSECTION OF INDIAN CREEK DRIVE
AND 41 STREET
The purpose of this Letter to Commission ("LTC") is to provide an update on the City of
Miami Beach ("City") request to the Florida Department of Transportation ("FOOT") to
implement southbound dual right turn lanes along State Road ("SR") A1A/Indian Creek
Drive onto westbound 41 Street (the "Improvements").
Pursuant to the City's request, FOOT has completed a traffic analysis for all intersections
along SR 112/Arthur Godfrey Road/41 Street between SR 907/Alton Road and SR
A1A/Collins Avenue and along SR A1A/lndian Creek Drive between 41 Street and 47
Street. The traffic analysis concluded that the implementation of the Improvements is
feasible. The Improvements will be included as part of an upcoming FOOT resurfacing
project: FM 443931-4 - SR A1A/Collins Avenue from 44 Street to 4700 Block and Indian
Creek Drive from 41 Street to 44 Street. Per FOOT, the project is expected to begin in
summer 2024 and last approximately ten (10) months. It is important to note that this
schedule is preliminary, tentative, and unofficial since the additional work associated
with the southbound dual right turn lanes will have to be incorporated into the overall
project timeline.
The Improvements will require modification of the existing signalized intersection, which
includes the installation of a new traffic signal mast arm on City property at the northwest
corner of Indian Creek Drive and 41 Street. This work will require the City to grant a
perpetual easement to FOOT. This commitment from the City is required to ensure the
project remains on schedule.
Transportation and Mobility Department staff will continue to collaborate with FOOT to
provide transportation solutions to the Indian Creek Drive, Collins Avenue, and 41 Street
corridors. Additional updates will be provided at the appropriate time via L TC.
