OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE DONATION OF A
FIRE RESCUE VAN TO THE CITY OF COZUMEL, MEXICO, AS
REQUESTED BY THE CITY OF COZUMEL VIA THE SISTER CITIES
COMMITTEE
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION
The Administration recommends that the Mayor and City Commission
adopt the attached Resolution authorizing the donation of a 1985
Ford Fire Rescue Van, serial number 0023-5, which was taken out of
service and placed on the auction list to our sister city, Cozumel,
Mexico.
BACKGROUND
The City of Cozumel, Mexico, a sister city to Miami Beach,
requested via the Sister City Committee chaired by Bruce Singer,
and later in a letter written by C. German Padilla, Mayor of
Cozumel, directed to Mayor Seymour Gelber, the donation of a fire
engine and fire rescue van to fulfill the needs of the citizens of
Cozumel.
The • Administration reviewed its inventory of out of service
vehicles and found a 1985 Ford Rescue Van, No. . 0023-5, to meet the
description of the vehicle requested. The vehicle was set aside
pending City Commission approval. A similar 1984 Fire Rescue Van
was sold at auction on Saturday, January 22, 1994, for $750.
Mr. Joseph Pinon, Executive Assistant to the City Manager, has
obtained a commitment from Mayor C. German Garcia Padilla that the
City of Cozumel will accept said vehicle in "as is condition" and
that all expenses related to repairs, freight and delivery, taxes,
export fees, and any other expenses related to said vehicle will be
the sole responsibility of the City of Cozumel, Mexico.
•
CONCLUSION
This Resolution should be approved authorizing the donation of the
1985 Fire Rescue Van, No. 0023-5, to the City of Cozumel, Mexico.
