COMMISSION RETREAT
Date: April 22, 2004
The purpose of this LTC is to confirm that we will hold the Commission Retreat on
Saturday, May 8 and Saturday, May 22, 2004. Both these dates have been confirmed with
your offices and are scheduled on your calendars. We will meet on May 8 from 12:00 p.m.
to 7:00 p.m. and on May 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
As we have discussed, the focus of our time together will be (1) the establishment of a
specific vision for the City, along with establishing goals and priorities; (2) clarifying and
strengthening the relationship between the Commission and the Administration; and (3)
providing a clear overview and understanding of the City's fiscal processes.
Dr. Rick Jensen, whom each of you met with one-on-one, will facilitate and lead our time
together. Rick is creating the agenda based on information and details each of you
provided to him when you met. The agenda, as well as other information to help you
prepare for the retreat, will be shared with you prior to May 8.
The location of the retreat has not been determined yet and I would like to provide some
options to each of you so that we can hold the May 8 session at a location you all are most
comfortable with. The options on Miami Beach are:
(1) Board Room with ocean view at the South Beach Marriott Hotel;
(2) Conference Room at the Eden Roc Hotel;
(3) Conference Room at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
If your preference is to hold the May 8 retreat outside of Miami Beach, the options are:
(1) Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables;
(2) Florida International University Conference Center in North Miami Beach;
(3) University of Miami Conference Center in Coral Gables.
My office will contact your aides to determine where you would like to hold our first session.
When we meet on May 8, we can determine as a group where to hold the May 22 session.
