Resolution 2023-32609RESOLUTION NO. 2023-32609 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO EXPEDITE THE PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION OF PALM TREES ON LINCOLN ROAD, AND TO OBTAIN INPUT FROM THE LINCOLN ROAD BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT TO EXPEDITE THE INSTALLATION OF TEMPORARY BOLLARDS TO REPLACE THE EXISTING CONCRETE BARRIERS ON LINCOLN ROAD (ON WASHINGTON AVENUE AND ALTON ROAD INTERSECTIONS); AND FURTHER, REFERRING THE FUNDING FOR THE TEMPORARY BARRIERS TO THE FINANCE AND ECONOMIC RESILIENCY COMMITTEE FOR REVIEW IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 2-14(D)(1)(A) OF THE CITY CODE. WHEREAS, canary date palms on the Lincoln Road Mall require restoration as they are the signature landscape feature of the Mall entrance from the beach; and WHEREAS, on May 1, 2023, the City initiated a competitive solicitation process, requesting quotes from vendors for purchase, delivery, and installation of ten (10) canary date palms; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission direct the Administration to expedite the process to purchase and install the date palm trees on Lincoln Road; and WHEREAS, in a further effort to beautify Lincoln Road, the Mayor and City Commission desire for the City Administration to work with the Lincoln Road Business Improvement District to expedite the installation of temporary bollards to replace the existing, unsightly concrete barriers located on Lincoln Road (on Washington Avenue and Alton Road intersections); and WHEREAS, as part of this item, the Mayor and City Commission further desire to refer this item to the Finance and Economic Resiliency Committee to identify funding for the temporary barriers in accordance with Section 2-14(d)(1)(a) of the City Code. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby direct the City Administration to expedite the purchase and installation of palm trees on Lincoln Road, and to obtain input from the Lincoln Road Business Improvement District to expedite the installation of temporary bollards to replace the existing concrete barriers on Lincoln Road (on Washington Avenue and Alton Road intersections); and further, refer the funding for the temporary barriers to the Finance and Economic Resiliency Committee for review in accordance with Section 2-14(d)(1)(a) of the City Code.
