SUBJECT: Ground-Breaking Ceremony for Calais Drive Streetscape Improvements
In 1995 the City Administration together with the Community Development Advisory Committee
and the North Beach Development Corporation identified a major need for drainage, street
resurfacing, parking and sidewalks in the North Beach area. As a result, the tbllowing sources of
funds ~vere identified to address these needs. These funding sources included Community
Development Block Grant funds, and excess gas and stormwater tax funds. A comprehensive
project known as the Calais Drive Streetscape Improvements Project was designed to encompass the
entire length of Calais Drive and portions of Bay Drive and Rue Granville.
A construction contract in the amount of $959,353 ~vas awarded for the Calais Drive Streetscape
Improvements Project to the lowest responsive bidder, Lumeco Management, Inc. Construction
activities for this streetscape improvement project xvill provide street paving, drainage and irrigation,
storm sewers, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, parking spaces and landscaping. Construction is
anticipated to be completed in November 1998.
A ground-breaking ceremony ~vill be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 1998, on the corner
of Calais Drive and Biarritz Drive. There will be a brief presentation prior to the ground-breaking
and light refreshments will follow.
