SUBJECT: Miami Beach is Awarded an Appropriation of $500,000 by the Florida
Legislature for Resilient Seawalls along Collins Avenue Project
I am pleased to report that the City has been included in the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 State
Budget, recently signed into law by Governor Desantis, in the amount of $500,000 for the
construction of resilient seawalls along Collins Avenue.
The project will focus on constructing 424 linear feet of seawall along State Road A1A/Collins Avenue, elevating the current seawall height from 2.1' NAVO to the recommended 5. 7' NAVO. This funding will support our ongoing efforts to protect areas
along the coast, enhance resilience against tides, waves, and sea level rise, and ensure
the safety of our residents, visitors, and built environment.
We would like to express our gratitude to our legislative delegation as well as the rest of
the Florida Legislature, for their recognition of the importance of coastal resilience and their support in providing this funding. Their commitment to protecting our natural resources and sustaining the vibrancy of Miami Beach is deeply appreciated.
Thank you all so much for your unwavering support and guidance during this process.
Please let me know if I can answer any questions or provide further assistance.
