Attached for your information is Resolution No. 2023-059, adopted by the Mayor and City Council
of the City of Hialeah on June 13, 2023.
RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
HIALEAH, FLORIDA, URGING THE ADOPTION OF TERM LIMITS FOR THE
CONSTITUTIONAL OFFICES MIAMI-DADE COUNTY WILL ELECT IN 2024;
AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
The City of Hialeah Clerk has requested that a copy of this resolution be provided to the Miami
Beach Mayor and Commissioners.

RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HIALEAH,
FLORIDA, URGING THE ADOPTION OF TERM
LI MITS FOR THE CONSTITUTIONAL OFFICES
M IAM I-DADE COUN TY WILL ELECT IN 2024;
AND PROVIDIN G FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, in November of2018 Florida voters approved Amendment 10 to the Florida
Constitution which, am ong other things, provided that all Florida counties elect a Property
Appraiser, Sheriff, Supervisor of Elections, Tax Collector, and Clerk of Courts; and
WHEREAS, the election of all these positions in Miami-Dade County will commence
with the 2024 election cycle; and
WHEREAS, there are currently no term limits for these new and older elected offices; and
WHEREAS, term lim its play an essential role in the democratic process by mitigating
against the risk of excessive concentration of power by an elected official, forcing new
perspectives, an d increasing the number of participants in public life among other things; and
WHEREAS, other public offices in Florida carry term limits in part because of these
important functions; and
WHEREAS, for the foregoing reasons the City Council of the City of Hialeah believes
adoption of term limits for all county-wide constitutional offices is in the best interest of its
residents an d the public generally; an d
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Hialeah hopes other Miami-Dade
municipalities will join in urging state and coun ty officials to pass term limits for county-wide
constitutional officers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY
COUN CIL OF THE CITY OF HIALEAH, FLORIDA, THAT:

The foregoing Recitals are true and correct and incorporated herein by this

ur ges our State Representatives, State Senator, and Miami-Dade County Commissioners to work
together to pass and implement term limits for all county-wide constitutional offices.

Instructions to the Clerk. The Clerk is hereby instructed to provide a copy
of this Resolution to the City's State Representatives and State Senator, Miami-Dade County
Commissioners, and to the Clerks of all other municipalities in Miami-Dade County to share with
their elected officials.
Section 4: This resolution shall become effective when approved by majority vote of
the City Council and signed by the Mayor or at the next regularly scheduled City Council meeting,
if the Mayor's signature is withheld or if the City Council overrides the Mayor's veto.
