A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING A$50,000 GRANT FOR THE
LEAGUE AGAINST CANCER, INC. TO FUND A MOBILE MAMMOGRAM
SCREENING TRUCK TO BE USED IN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,WITH
THE FUNDING TO BE INCLUDED AS PART OF THE FY 2023 BUDGET;
FURTHER, AUTHORIZING THE CITY CLERK AND CITY MANAGER TO
EXECUTE THE CITY'S STANDARD GRANT AGREEMENT WITH
RESPECT TO THE FOREGOING; AND REFERRING TO THE JULY 21,
2023 FINANCE AND ECONOMIC RESILIENCY COMMITTEE BUDGET
BRIEFING AN ITEM FOR CONSIDERATION OF A RECURRING GRANT
FOR THE LEAGUE AGAINST CANCER, INC. AS PART OF THE FY 2024
BUDGET PROCESS.
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission of the City of Miami Beach recognize
the importance of proactive healthcare initiatives and promoting accessible healthcare
services to the residents of Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, breast cancer remains a significant health concern affecting many
women in our community, and early detection through regular mammogram screenings
greatly increases the chances of successful treatment; and
WHEREAS, the League Against Cancer, Inc., has proposed an innovative solution
by seeking funding for a mobile mammogram screening truck, which will bring vital breast
cancer screening services directly to the residents of Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, the League Against Cancer is an established and reputable
organization dedicated to providing comprehensive cancer prevention, diagnosis,
treatment, and support services to underserved communities; and
WHEREAS, the City recognizes the importance of supporting such initiatives that
contribute to the overall health and well-being of our community; and
WHEREAS,therefore,the Mayor and City Commission wish to award a grant in the
amount of $50,000 to the League Against Cancer for the purpose of funding a mobile
mammogram screening truck to be used in the City of Miami Beach, with the funding to be
included as part of the FY 2023 budget; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager is further authorized to work in collaboration with the
League Against Cancer to ensure the successful implementation and operation of the
mobile mammogram screening truck; and
WHEREAS, in addition, the Mayor and City Commission wish to refer to the July 21,
2023 Finance and Economic Resiliency Committee Budget Briefing an item for
consideration of a recurring grant for the League Against Cancer, Inc., as part of the FY
2024 budget process.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby approve a$50,000 grant for the League Against Cancer, Inc.,to fund a
mobile mammogram screening truck to be used in the City of Miami Beach, with the
funding included as part of the FY 2023 budget; further, authorize the City Clerk and City
Manager to execute the City's standard grant agreement with respect to the foregoing;and
refer to the July 21, 2023 Finance and Economic Resiliency Committee Budget Briefing an .
item for consideration of a recurring grant for the League Against Cancer, Inc., as part of
the FY 2024 budget process.
