SUBJECT: International Coastal Cleanup Day 2023
I am pleased to announce that the City of Miami Beach is collaborating with
Volunteercleanup.org for the Ocean Conservancy's 38" Annual International Coastal
Cleanup Day on September 16, 2023. The event brings together volunteers to collect litter
and debris on roadsides, coastal areas, lakes, and waterways throughout the U.S.
The mission of Ocean Conservancy is to educate the public on issues of maritime pollution
and to use the information collected from the cleanup to help drive policy. Last year, over
318,000 volunteers from this international event collected over 5.5 million pounds of litter.
Miami-Dade had a total of 2,976 participants that collected 22,125 pounds of trash.
This year, there will be 10 cleanup sites throughout Miami Beach:

The Environment & Sustainability Department will lead the cleanup site on the beach
behind the Radisson Hotel (4343 Collins Ave) and encourage additional departments to
join. Employees are invited to participate in the cleanup with their families and friends.
Immediately following the beach cleanup led by the City, Bubly Sparkling Water invites
volunteers to join the Coastal Cleanup After-Party in the backyard of the Radisson Hotel
and enjoy a refreshing flavored Bubly.
The Communications and Marketing Department is sharing the events through digital
communication channels to encourage resident participation.
