• Don't be Ruff on the Bay: Pet w aste can take a huge toll on the enviro nm ent if it is not
clea ne d up pro perly. If pet w aste m akes its w ay into w aterw ays, it affects water quality
be cause it contains nitrogen and phosphorous w hich can deplete oxy gen that m arine life

• Don't Fertilize the Bay: The excessive or incorrect use of fertilizer has been fo und to lead
to algal bloom s. Wh en it rains, fertilizers are carried as runoff into our w aterw ays. Im pro per

of the so il.

• Don't be Trashy: It is important that both residents and visitors do their part in minimizing
the amount of pollution that enters the City's vast system of streets, interconnected
waterways, and sensitive marine habitats. Litter that ends up on the street or ground can
eventually make its way into bodies of water.
Yappy Hour will highlight the importance of properly collecting and disposing of dog waste to
prevent nutrient pollution from entering bodies of water. The event is held in partnership with
several community partners, inviting residents and their pets to celebrate Biscayne Bay and
pledge to help protect it. Activities will include music, a dog adoption station, pet costume swap,
and treats for everyone to enjoy.
