A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ACKNOWLEDGING THE DECISION OF
COMMISSIONER DAVID SUAREZ TO VOLUNTARILY FOREGO THE
SALARY AND ALLOWANCES AFFORDED TO MEMBERS OF THE CITY
COMMISSION, AS HEREINAFTER SET FORTH IN THIS RESOLUTION
(COLLECTIVELY, THE "STIPEND"); AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH TO DONATE SUCH STIPEND TO THE PELICAN HARBOR
SEABIRD STATION INC., A NON-PROFIT 501(C)(3) WILDLIFE RESCUE
ORGANIZATION, AND TO NON-PROFIT HOMELESS ORGANIZATIONS
PARTNERING WITH OR PROVIDING SERVICES TO THE HOMELESS IN
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, WITH THE SPECIFIC NON-PROFIT ENTITIES
AND AMOUNTS TO EACH ORGANIZATION TO BE DETERMINED BY
COMMISSIONER SUAREZ, AT HIS DISCRETION, VIA WRITTEN NOTICE
TO THE CITY MANAGER; AND ' FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER OR DESIGNEE TO EXECUTE ANY AND ALL DOCUMENTS OR
AGREEMENTS IN CONNECTION WITH THE DONATIONS, WITH THE
FINAL REPORT OF ALL DONATIONS MADE PURSUANT TO THIS
RESOLUTION TO BE CIRCULATED TO THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION VIA LETTER TO COMMISSION (LTC).
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2.02 of the City Charter, the annual salary for the Office
of Commissioner is six thousand dollars ($6,000); and
WHEREAS, in addition, each Commissioner is also entitled to a car allowance, phone
allowance, a monthly office stipend for travel and other expenses related to their public duties
(hereinafter, the Commissioner's salary and the preceding benefits collectively referred to as
the "Commissioner's Stipend") totaling $34,300;' and
WHEREAS, Commissioner David Suarez intends to voluntarily forego the full Stipend in
the amount of $40,300 that he would otherwise be entitled to as Commissioner, and wishes to
donate the full Stipend to the Pelican Harbor Seabird Station Inc., and to one or more non-profit
homeless organizations partnering with or providing services to the homeless in the City of
Miami Beach, with the specific non-profit entities and the corresponding amounts to be donated
to each organization to be determined by Commission Suarez, via written notice to the City
Manager; and
WHEREAS, accordingly, to implement the foregoing, the Office of Management and
Budget will make the appropriate payroll adjustments to reflect that Commissioner Suarez has
voluntarily elected to forego all of the Stipends he would otherwise be entitled to receive as a
City Commission.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby
acknowledge the decision of Commissioner David Suarez to voluntarily forego the salary and
allowances afforded to members of the City Commission, as hereinafter set forth in this
Resolution (collectively, the "Stipend"); and authorizing the City of Miami Beach to donate
such Stipend to the Pelican Harbor Seabird Station Inc., a non-profit 501(c)(3) wildlife rescue
organization, and to non-profit homeless organizations partnering with or providing services
to the homeless in the City of Miami Beach, with the specific non-profit entities and amounts
to each organization to be determined by Commissioner Suarez, at his discretion, via written
notice'to the City Manager; and further authorize the City Manager or designee to execute
any and all documents or agreements in connection with the donations, with the Final Report
of all donations made pursuant to this Resolution to be circulated to the Mayor and City
Commission via Letter to Commission (LTC).
