Resolution 2024-32961 RESOLUTION NO: 2024-32961
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY
ADMINISTRATION TO IMPLEMENT A REASONABLY PRICED
SECURITY CAMERA PILOT PROGRAM BY PURCHASING AND
INSTALLING ARLO CAMERAS (OR EQUIVALENT) FOR USE BY CODE
ENFORCEMENT AND THE MIAMI BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT TO
DETECT CODE VIOLATIONS AND/OR CRIMINAL ACTIVITY AT PUBLIC
SITES ON THE WESTERN BOUNDARY OF THE CITY ALONG THE
INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY AT A COST NOT TO EXCEED $20,000.
WHEREAS, the use of surveillance cameras can enhance public safety and well-
being by acting as a deterrent to criminal activities and code violations; and
WHEREAS, security cameras help prevent thefts, assaults, drug dealing and other
illegal activities because potential wrongdoers who know they are being monitored are
less likely to commit crimes; and
WHEREAS, security cameras help protect public property by deterring violations
of the City Code, including graffiti and other forms of vandalism; and
WHEREAS, surveillance cameras capture real-time incidents, and footage from
surveillance cameras can provide crucial leads to enforcement officers and detectives in
investigations and serve as evidence in legal proceedings; and
WHEREAS, certain public sites on the Western boundary of the City, along the
Intracoastal Waterway, are not currently being monitored and are appropriate locations
for the installation of surveillance cameras to ensure the safety and well-being of the City's
residents; and
WHEREAS, the current security system used at the Miami Beach Convention
Center and other City facilities requires the use of cost prohibitive cameras; and
WHEREAS, there are less expensive, but equally effective, options that could
serve the same purpose at a much more reasonable cost, including Arlo security cameras
and other comparable options.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby direct the City Administration to implement a reasonably priced
security camera pilot program by purchasing and installing Arlo cameras (or equivalent)
for use by Code Enforcement and the Miami Beach Police Department to detect code
violations and/or criminal activity at public sites on the western boundary of the City along
the Intracoastal Waterway at a cost not to exceed $20,000.
