This item is scheduled for the Second Reading Public Hearing at your April 3, 2024 meeting. The PVNA Board reviewed designation documentation and spoke with city staff. Our position is based on these observations: 1. The designation provides no benefit to the citizens and homeowners living adjacent to and near Collins Canal. 2. The designation applies only to the waterway and pathways-which are not under modification threat-and not to bridges or seawalls. 3. The designation may support some state legislators' opinion that Miami Beach has too many historic protections, eroding support for more meaningful properties. 4. The designation provides no recommendations for funding for signage or other initiatives related to the historic designation. 5. The designation does not explain that some of the canal is already historically-designated or the reason for designation expansion.
