Mr. Sergio Rodriguez
City Manager
City of Miami Beach
1700 Convention Center Drive
Miami Beach, Florida 33139
Dear Sergio:
I am writing to confirm to you that I have accepted the position of Deputy Executive Director
of the San Jose Redevelopment Agency in California. I am scheduled to start work there on
September 14, 1998. My last day here will be Wednesday, September 9, 1998.
I arrived in Miami Beach eight years ago, as the new Economic Development Director. The
main focus ofthe City was to induce the development of a new convention hotel. I am proud to say
that the dream has become a reality, and during the course of the last eight years, I have had the
opportunity to be involved in a variety of initiatives that have improved the City of Miami Beach
including the revitalization of Lincoln Road and the North Beach community, the securing of
millions of dollars in State and Federal grants for transportation and other improvements, expansion
of the City's historic districts, and countless other projects.
While I was involved in major development initiatives, I have also taken pleasure in helping
implement smaller scale neighborhood projects that have improved the quality oflife of our citizens.
I am proud of the Bay Drive streetscape, the Hispanic Community Center, and many other small
projects that I know would not have happened without creative funding techniques.
I have never been a stranger to controversy and I am, likewise, pleased that the Commission
approved the five-year Consolidated Plan for Federal funding which I brought forward this last July.
The position that I am taking will continue to keep me in the forefront of controversy and is full of
new challenges. I look forward to it.
I wish you and your staffthe best. I am planning on returning to visit "my projects" as I feel
that I have left a part of myself here. Good luck!
Sincerely,
arry S. Mavrogene
Assistant City Manager
