Law Enforcement Day
The purpose of this Letter to the Commission (L TC) is to provide details about the
upcoming Miami Beach Police Department 2nd annual Law Enforcement Officer Day (LEO
Day) in collaboration with the 100 Black Men of South Florida. This event offers a unique
opportunity for youth to interact with law enforcement officers and gain valuable insights
into their roles and responsibilities. LEO Day will be held in the Major James Smith
Community Room located in the lobby of the Miami Beach Police Department (1100
Washington Avenue) on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 8:30 a.m.
Approximately fifty mentees from the 100 Black Men of South Florida Leadership Academy
will be attending LEO Day. The event aims to promote positive interactions and improve
understanding between youth and law enforcement. Mentees will have the chance to learn
about the Miami Beach Police Athletic League, Police Explorer Program, and Specialized
Units, as well as engage in hands-on activities on the Police Department training simulator.
This event is designed to provide mentees with a better understanding of the challenges
and rewards associated with a career in law enforcement. By fostering positive
relationships and empowering youth with knowledge about the crucial role law
enforcement plays in our communities, we hope to build trust and create a more
harmonious relationship between law enforcement and the community.
Please reach out to Officer Christopher Mitchell at (786) 877-4530 with any questions.
