Support of Commission Item RS J - Amendment of Chapter 66,
Article Ill, Section 66-107 of the City of Miami Beach Code
The purpose of this memo is to inform the Mayor and Members of the City Commission of the
recent vote of the Marine and Waterfront Protection Authority (MWPA). The members of the
Authority voted unanimously in support of the proposed ordinance as written,
recognizing its critical role in enhancing the management and maintenance of marine
structures and facilities at the Maurice Gibb Boat Ramp docks.
The ordinance will enable the city to effectively manage the boat ramp docks in the
manner originally intended, allowing the enjoyment for city residents and the general
public (at the floating dock), while eliminating illegal commercial activities. Additionally,
it aligns with our ongoing efforts to protect and sustainably manage our city's marine
and waterfront assets.
We appreciate the efforts of the City Commission in considering these necessary
modifications and look forward to seeing the positive impact of these changes on the
Maurice Gibb Boat Ramp docks. The MWPA is committed to assisting in any way
necessary to facilitate the smooth implementation of this ordinance.
