Monthly Staffing Update for the Building Department
The purpose of this L TC is to provide the Commission with a monthly update, as requested in
Resolution No. 2023-32656, on staffing updates from the Building Department, with a report to
specifically identify (1) each vacant position in the Building Department by title, section, and trade;
(2) the length of time each vacant position has remained vacant, by section and trade; (3) the
total number of vacant positions and overall vacant positions in the department; and (4) specific
steps taken each month to fill positions, such as the total number of interviews conducted and
other relevant efforts to fill the position. See Attachment A for data requested.
Below please find a summary update of our recent recruitment activities for the month of April
2024:
• Advertised ten (10) positions on the City's website via GovernmentJobs.com, Career
Builder, Indeed, and Gold Coast Schools of Construction.
• Continued advertising with International Code Council, Building Officials Association of
Florida, South Florida Building Officials Association, Board of Rules and Appeals through
mass emails, and Linked-In postings to City jobs page.
• 22 new applications were received in April for the technical trade positions. Of these, 14
met the minimum requirements and were referred to the department. Interviews are being
scheduled with the qualified applicants.
• Based on the interviews conducted in the previous months, candidates have been
selected to fill the following vacancies: one (1) Operations Manager and one (1) Building
Inspector. A start date has not been determined yet.
• In April, six (6) interviews were conducted with staffing agencies 4BB and C.AP. to fill
some critical gaps. Five (5) interviews were for the position of Permit Clerk, and one (1)
was for Chief Mechanical Inspector. Based on these interviews, two (2) Permit Clerks and
one (1) Chief Mechanical Inspector were hired.
• The current count of permit clerk positions staffed with temp agency personnel including
the two new hires described above is eight (8). This staffing ensures uninterrupted
services and assist with workload in various areas of the department including Permit
Intake, Violations, and Administrative Support.

• The current count of technical personnel staffed through CAP Government Agency to
supplement our plan review and inspection services and ensure uninterrupted services is
seven (7) including the new hire mentioned above.
In addition, Human Resources and/or the Building Department have recently:
• Closed out all continuous job announcements and referred qualified applicants to the
Building Department for the month of April 2024 on April 30, 2024.
• Reopened all advertisements for the positions that we currently have vacant; the posting
will close on May 31, 2024, unfilled positions will reopen to commence with a fresh pool
of applicants.
• Continue to encourage employee referrals to encourage current employees to recommend
possible candidates, resulting in two referrals.
• Continue to mention available opportunities and inform potential candidates during our
monthly meetings and trainings with the public.
