A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING THE RECOMMENDATION OF
THE PUBLIC SAFETY NEIGHBORHOODS AND QUALITY OF LIFE
COMMITTEE, AT ITS MARCH 20, 2024 MEETING, TO APPROVE BRITANY
BAY PARK AS THE PERMANENT LOCATION FOR THE YEAR-ROUND
EXHIBITION OF THE WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH PLACARDS
RECENTLY DISPLAYED IN THE LUMMUS PARK AREA DURING MARCH
OF 2023.
WHEREAS, during the April 28, 2023 Commission meeting, a discussion was referred
to the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee ("PSNQLC") by Commissioner
Laura Dominguez to discuss the Miami Beach Commission for Women's recommendation for
the City to find a permanent location for the year-round exhibition of the Women's History Month
placards recently displayed in the Lummus Park area during March of 2023; and
WHEREAS, during the March 20, 2024 PSNQLC meeting, the Committee approved
Britany Bay park as the permanent location for the year-round exhibition of the Women's History
Month placards recently displayed in the Lummus Park area during March of 2023; and
WHEREAS, the Britany Bay park is a great location as it is a recently renovated
waterfront park; and since reopening, the park has experienced an increase in activity; and
WHEREAS, the initial cost for each placard is $1,800-$3,000 and the cost to replace
the design on each placard is estimated around $500; and
WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Department will be using current operating
funds to complete this project; and
WHEREAS, the recommended installation method is similar to that of park signs,
which allows for ease of replacement as -needed.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby approve the recommendation of the Public Safety Neighborhoods and
Quality of Life Committee, at its March 20, 2024 meeting, to approve Britany Bay Park as the
permanent location for the year-round exhibition of the Women's History Month placards
displayed in the Lummus Park area during March of 2023.

BACKGROUND/HISTORY
During the April 28, 2023 Commission meeting, a discussion was referred to the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life
Committee ("PSNQLC") by Commissioner Laura Dominguez to discuss the Miami Beach Commission for Women's
recommendation for the City to find a permanent location for the year-round exhibition of the Women's History Month placards
recently displayed in the Lummus Park area during March of 2023 (Exhibit A).
ANALYSIS
During the March 20, 2024 PSNQLC meeting, the Committee approved Brittany Bay Park as the permanent location for the year-
round exhibition of the Women's History Month placards recently displayed in the Lummus Park area during March of 2023. The
park, located at 6430 Indian Creek Drive, is a great location as it is a recently renovated waterfront park. Since reopening, the park
has experienced an increase in activity, including passersby.

FINANCIAL INFORMATION
The original installation in Lummus Park included 11 placards. The installation cost for each placard in Brittany Bay Park is
estimated at $1,800-3,000 per placard. The total estimated cost to install all 11 placards ranges between $19,800 and $33,000.
The cost to replace the design on each placard is estimated at around $500 per placard. The Parks and Recreation Department
would use current operating funds to complete this project. The recommended installation method is similar to that of park signs,
which allows for ease of replacement as needed.

The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to notify you of the motion made at the Miami Beach
Commission for Women meeting held on April 18, 2023.
The Miami Beach Commission for Women would like to encourage the Miami Beach City
Commission to find a location for the placards from the Women's History Month Exhibit that
took place on Ocean Drive in March 2023. We recommend the placards be utilized on City
Property year-round.

HISTORY:

to discuss the Miami Beach Commission for Women's recommendation for the City to find a
permanent location for the year-round exhibition of the Women's History Month placards recently
displayed in the Lummus Park area during March of 2023 (Exhibit A).
ANALYSIS
Commissioner Laura Dominguez would like to discuss identifying a permanent location for the
year-round exhibition of the Women's History Month placards recently displayed in the Lummus
Park area during March of 2023 and asks for the Administration to provide any recommendations
for a suitable location for the display.
If the placement of these placards is approved at the Committee and Commission level, it is
recommended that they be installed within Brittany Bay Park, located along Indian Creek Drive
and 65th Street. The park is a great location as it is a recently renovated waterfront park. Since
reopening, the park has experienced an increase in activity, including passersby.
The initial cost for each placard is $1,800-3,000. The cost to replace the design on each placard
is estimated around $500. To complete this project, funding would need to be allocated. The
recommended installation method is similar to that of park signs, which allows for ease of
replacement as needed.
CONCLUSION:
Discussion and direction on a permanent location for the year-round exhibition of the Women's History
Month placards recently displayed in the Lummus Park area during March of 2023.
