Resolution 2024-33049RESOLUTION NO. 2024-33049 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 2024-32940, AND DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO ORGANIZE AND PRODUCE A VETERANS DAY ART EXHIBIT IN LUMMUS PARK TO HONOR THE CITY'S ROLE DURING WORLD WAR II AND TO FACILITATE A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING AND CONNECTION FOR RESIDENTS AND VISITORS. WHEREAS, the historical significance of the City of Miami Beach during World War II is integral to understanding its past and its contributions to the war effort; and WHEREAS, the. City recognizes the importance of honoring its historical connection to the army during World War II and aims to provide opportunities for residents and visitors to deepen their understanding of this pivotal period in the City's history; and WHEREAS, at the March 13, 2024 City Commission meeting, the Mayor and City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2024-32940, directing the City Administration to organize and produce a Memorial Day art exhibit, in Lummus Park, focusing on the relationship between Miami Beach and World War II, and illuminating the period when Miami Beach became a host city to U.S. troops, diligently preparing for their critical roles in World War II; and WHEREAS, however, due to logistical and timing constraints, the Mayor and City Commission wish to amend Resolution No. 2024-32940 and authorize the City Administration to produce the art exhibit in time for Veteran's Day Weekend; and WHEREAS, the exhibition will feature a curated collection of photographs and documents capturing the essence of Miami Beach during WWII, which will be complemented by textual content, providing context and historical insights; and WHEREAS, additionally, online multimedia content will be integrated via QR codes, including videos and immersive displays, to transport visitors back in time to experience this interesting historical period in our City; and WHEREAS, the estimated cost for the exhibit is $50,000, which includes production, setup, and promotional expenses, and the exhibit is expected to be reusable for future holidays and other events. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby direct the City Administration to organize and produce a Veterans Day art exhibit in Lummus Park to honor the City's role during World War II and to facilitate, a deeper understanding and connection for residents and visitors.
