Resolution 2024-33056RESOLUTION NO: 2024-33056 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, URGING BEACH TOWING SERVICES, INC. AND TREMONT TOWING, INC. ("TOWING COMPANIES") TO DONATE A SIGNIFICANT PORTION OF THEIR WINDFALL PROFITS, REALIZED DUE TO INCREASED TOWING RATES DURING MARCH 2024, TO BE USED FOR CULTURAL AND ARTS PROGRAMMING AND/OR PARKS AND RECREATION ACTIVATIONS, AS BEST DETERMINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION, FOR THE BETTERMENT AND BENEFIT OF THE MIAMI BEACH COMMUNITY. WHEREAS, during the month of March each year, Beach Towing Services, 'Inc. and Tremont Towing, Inc.. (collectively, the "Towing Companies') often experience a significant increase in profits due to heightened vehicle towing activity; and WHEREAS, in 2024, as set forth in LTC No. 048-2024, the high impact measure doubling the normal towing rate for non-residents (from $258 to $516) was in effect for all non-resident vehicles towed from the area south of 231 Street / Dade Boulevard; and WHEREAS, these windfall profits represent an opportunity for the Towing Companies to contribute to the betterment of the community; and .WHEREAS, Cultural and Arts programming, along with Parks and Recreation activations, are vital to enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors alike; and -WHEREAS, the City has the authority to encourage businesses to contribute to the community for the greater good; and WHEREAS, the City strongly encourages the Towing Companies to reinvest a significant portion of their windfall profits, generated over the Spring Break period 2024 (and prospectively for subsequent Spring Breaks should these measures be enacted again), for the benefit of the community; and WHEREAS, the City shall work collaboratively with the Towing Companies to facilitate the donation process and ensure that the funds are effectively and appropriately utilized for community enhancement. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the Mayor and City Commission hereby urge Beach Towing Services, Inc. and Tremont Towing, Inc. ("Towing Companies") to donate a significant portion of their windfall profits, realized due to increased towing rates during March 2024, to be used for cultural and arts programming and/or parks and recreation activations, as best determined by the Mayor and City Commission, for the betterment and benefit of the Miami Beach Community.
