LTC 239-2024 New Interactive Public Safety Dashboards OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER LTC # LETTER TO COMMISSION TO: Honorable Mayor Steven Meiner and Members of the City Commission FROM: Rickelle Williams, Interim City Manager DATE: June 10, 2024 SUBJECT: New Interactive Public Safety Dashboards The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC) is to introduce two (2) new interactive public safety dashboards that aim to enhance the transparency of Miami Beach Police Department efforts. These dashboards will provide valuable insights to Miami Beach residents, fostering transparency, awareness and understanding between the community and law enforcement through a snapshot of policing activities within our city. This project has expanded collaboration between the City’s Information Technology and Police Department’s data and analytics initiatives. Launched today and linked below, the Monthly Crimes Dashboard provides a comprehensive overview of citywide monthly crime incidents, systematically categorized by the four (4) patrol areas: South Beach, Mid-Beach, North Beach, and the Entertainment District. This tool provides our community with a clearer understanding of the policing efforts across our city. In addition, the Daily Arrest Dashboard provides a daily arrest report featuring arrest statistics by the four (4) patrol areas, arrest information by primary charge, and arrest trends by hour of the day. These monthly and daily reports highlight the work of the dedicated men and women entrusted with ensuring the safety of our community. The City’s Information Technology Department established a Data and Analytics team in January 2020 to formalize the Administration’s commitment to providing analytics and dashboards for data- driven decisions, drive innovation, and provide open data capabilities for the City. Since then, the Department has produced eighty-three (83) dashboards for internal City operations, including six (6) public dashboards for open data and transparency initiatives. The City’s IT Department maintains a consolidated repository of public dashboards on the City’s website: https://www.miamibeachfl.gov/city-hall/information-technology. If you have questions or need assistance navigating the public safety dashboards, please contact Chief Information Officer Frank Quintana or Executive Officer Ernesto Rodriguez. We are confident these dashboards will contribute significantly to the city’s commitment to openness and accountability in matters of public safety.
