Resolution 2024-33134 RESOLUTION NO.: 2024-33134 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, PERMITTING CITY OF MIAMI BEACH CITY COMMISSIONERS, CANDIDATES FOR ELECTION TO THE MIAMI BEACH COMMISSION, AND ANY OTHER PERSON SITTING OR ASPIRING TO ANY ELECTED POSITION, TO ATTEND CITY OF MIAMI BEACH SPONSORED SENIOR EVENTS WITH ONE ADDITIONAL GUEST, BUT RESTRICTING THE DISTRIBUTION OF ANY PROMOTIONAL ITEMS OR WRITTEN MATERIAL TO TABLES PROVIDED BY THE CITY OUTSIDE THE EVENT. WHEREAS, the City's Parks and Recreation Department (the "City") hosts four large social events each year for the City's senior citizen residents at the Miami Beach Convention Center: (1)the Senior Holiday Party in December of each year; (2)the Senior Prom in April/May of each year; (3)the Senior Summer Bash in June/July of each year; and (4) Senior's Police Ball in September of each year; and WHEREAS, City staff works diligently to produce each event in an aesthetically pleasing and inviting environment that honors and attracts the City's many senior citizens; and WHEREAS, sifting and aspiring members of various political and judicial offices often attend these events, particularly during active campaign seasons; and WHEREAS, these individuals often attend with multiple staff and supporters and also often distribute campaign promotional items,written materials, and other"swag"that often overwhelms the senior attendees and clogs the event tables and other areas with items that detract from the purpose of providing a fun, beautiful, and honorific event space; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission desire to promote and protect the purpose of the City's senior events by allowing sifting and aspiring political and judicial candidates to attend its senior events with one guest in order to socialize and speak to the attendees, but to restrict the distribution of all campaign promotional items and written materials to tables outside the events, which the City will provide,where the senior attendees may peruse and accept any items or material if they so choose. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby permit City of Miami Beach City Commissioners, candidates for election to the Miami Beach City Commission, and any other person sifting or aspiring to any elected position, to attend City of Miami Beach sponsored senior events with one additional guest, but restrict the distribution of any promotional items or written material to tables provided by the City outside the event. / PASSED and ADOPTED this 0Vi day of J4LK , 2024.
