MWPA Supports a new Miami Beach Maine Park from South Point Jetty
up to 12th Street
The purpose of this mem o is to inform the Mayor and Members of the City Commission of the
recent unanim ous vote by the Marine and Waterfront Protection Authority (MW PA)Board
encouraging the City Com mission to move forw ard with steps to help create a nearshore Marine
Park from South Point Jetty up to 12th Street.This would consist of moving the current vessel
exclusion area from its present position to the eastern side of the existing natural reef.This would
also include the provision of mooring buoys to minimize anchor damage on the site.This project
has the potential to increase our community's understanding of the marine environment as well
drive ecotourism to our city.
