highlighting innovation and digital transformation initiatives
The purpose of this Letter to Commission (L TC)is to inform the Mayor and Commission of the
Information Technology (IT)Department's most recent achievement.On July 23%,2024,the IT
Department received Amazon Web Services (AWS)Champion Award.AWS is a subsidiary of
Amazon, Inc. It was launched in 2006 and has since become one of the world's most
comprehensive cloud platforms,offering cutting edge services from data centers globally. It
enables organizations to scale,innovate,and lower costs by providing on-demand cloud
computing resources in a flexible,secure,and cost-effective environment.
The AWS Champions program recognizes,celebrates,and supports organizations driving
digital transformation with cloud computing.This program acknowledges customers that have
used Amazon Web Services (AWS)technologies in innovative ways to improve the service to
their communities,constituents,staff,students,faculty or researchers.Champions'experiences
and success stories serve as inspiration for other education,state and local government
customers and set the tone for innovation with their peers.The IT Department architected and
constructed the award-winning solution which drastically improved call center and customer
service operations and lowered wait times by more than 50%.
IT is dedicated to providing tools that enhance the City of Miami Beach's ability to deliver world-
class service to the City's residents and visitors by helping the city meet needs for creative and
practical solutions.The IT Department aims to enhance communication with residents,increase
internet-accessible city services,and strengthen technology infrastructure.Implementing
scalable and innovative technologies has enhanced caller experience,reduced wait times,and
improved agent productivity through automated operations and real-time reporting.
