A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION-OF THE CITY OF '
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, THANKING GOVERNOR RON DESANTIS FOR
VETOING SENATE BILL 280 IN ACKNOWLEDGMENT THAT LOCAL
GOVERNMENTS SHOULD HAVE THE ABILITY TO REGULATE SHORT-TERM
RENTALS BASED ON THE SPECIFIC NEEDS OF THEIR COMMUNITIES;AND
FURTHER, DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS
RESOLUTION TO GOVERNOR RON DESANTIS, THE PRESIDENT OF THE
FLORIDA SENATE, AND THE SPEAKER OF THE FLORIDA HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES.
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission of the City of Miami Beach wish to express
sincere gratitude to Governor Ron DeSantis for vetoing Senate Bill 280, which would have.
significantly limited the authority of local governments to manage and regulate short-term
rentals, leading to increased challenges in addressing neighborhood concerns and ensuring
the quality of life for residents; and
WHEREAS, the ability of local governments to regulate short-term rentals is crucial for
maintaining the character, safety, and well-being of our communities; and
WHEREAS, local governments are best positioned to understand and respond to the
unique needs and concerns of their communities regarding short-term rentals; and
WHEREAS, by vetoing Senate Bill 280, Governor DeSantis has upheld the principle of
local control and empowered local governments to continue making decisions that are in the
best interest of their communities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR. AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby thank Governor Ron DeSantis for vetoing Senate Bill 280 in
acknowledgment that local governments should have the ability to regulate short-term rentals.
based on the specific needs of their communities; and further, direct the City Clerk to transmit
a copy of this Resolution to Governor Ron DeSantis, the President of the Florida Senate, and
the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives.
