Resolution 2024-33204 RESOLUTION NO. 2024-33204 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AWARDING A $10,000 SPONSORSHIP TO MIAMI BEACH RESIDENT AND ELITE SKELETON RACER JARED FIRESTONE TO SUPPORT HIS PARTICIPATION IN WORLD CUP RACES AND HIS JOURNEY TOWARDS REPRESENTING ISRAEL AT THE 2026 OLYMPIC GAMES. WHEREAS, Jared Firestone, a resident of Miami Beach, is a 2026 Winter Olympic hopeful in the sport of Skeleton, representing Team Israel; and WHEREAS, Jared has achieved notable success in his sport, being a 7-time medalist on Olympic-qualifying circuits, and earning Israel's first-ever gold medal in sliding sports, with a ranking as high as 24th in the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation ("IBSF") world rankings; and WHEREAS, Jared is the co-founder of Advancing Jewish Athletics 501(c)(3), a non-profit organization promoting sport as a pathway to ambassadorship, helping athletes build bridges and fight antisemitism through the pursuit of athletic accomplishment; and WHEREAS, through his non-profit, Jared will be coordinating an educational program with Miami Beach youth residents through the City's Parks and Recreation Department, specifically with the summer camp, teaching young residents about the importance of persistence and pursuing one's passions; and WHEREAS, Jared will share with the participants his story of overcoming medical hardships while growing up in South Florida to become an elite athlete in a winter sport, and demonstrate Skeleton sport-related exercise activities; and WHEREAS, a $10,000 grant sponsorship will enable Jared to compete in World Cup races around the globe between November 2024 and March 2025, representing the City of Miami Beach in 5 races simulcasted on ESPN3, culminating in the IBSF Skeleton World Championships in Lake Placid, New York; and WHEREAS, the Miami Beach logo will be prominently displayed on Jared's equipment during these races, as well as at events and appearances Jared will make throughout Miami Beach and all of South Florida during his off-season, inspiring many in Miami Beach, especially the young residents he will meet with prior to the kick-off of his season. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby award a $10,000 sponsorship to Miami Beach resident and elite skeleton racer Jared.Firestone to support his participation in World Cup races and his journey towards representing Israel at the 2026 Olympic Games.
