The Department was awarded first place in its respective agency size category at the Florida Law Enforcement Liaison (LEL)Traffic Safety Challenge Awards Ceremony on July 26,2024 in Orlando,Florida.The annual event is organized by the grant funded LEL Program which is sponsored by the Florida Department of Transportation (FOOT)and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).The award was presented in recognition of the Department's efforts in developing a successful comprehensive traffic safety program. The MBPD leads the way in traffic enforcement and is a model for Florida agencies.Its traffic safety program has been impactful in the community with a marked reduction of traffic-related crashes and an increase in traffic enforcement.This year's award was based on a 3.5% reduction in crashes from 4,679 in 2022 to 4,516 in 2023. The award and recognition are a true testament to the Administration's and Police Department's unwavering dedication to traffic safety and public service.The award also elevates the agency's status and chance of being included in the Champions category of the award next year.The recent approval of new radar acquisition to be installed in traffic enforcement vehicles will undoubtedly further fortify the effectiveness of the MBPD's traffic safety model.The MBPD will continue to focus on the initiative and through its success looks forward to continuing to be a leader throughout the state of Florida in traffic enforcement.
