SUBJECT: City of Miami Beach Recognized by NAFA Green Fleet Awards
The purpose of this Letter to Commission ("L TC") is to provide the Mayor and City Commission
with an announcement recognizing the City of Miami Beach with the Green Fleet Award and Most
Improved Fleet Award by the National Association of Fleet Administrators ("NAFA").
NAFA is the world's largest membership association for individuals who manage the vehicular fleet
and mobility responsibilities for their employers. NAFA propels the fleet and mobility profession
through its world-class certification, education, advocacy, and peer-networking programs. It is an
essential element of success for individuals involved in the profession. NAFA members control
more than 4.8 million vehicles and manage assets in excess of $122 billion. These vehicles travel
more than 84 billion miles annually.
NAFA's Green Fleet Awards (www.nafa.org/awards/green-fleet-awards/green-fleet-awards-2024/)
is open to both government and commercial fleets in North America. Government fleets consist of
all federal, state, and local government fleets, including fleets that are operated by local
government personnel or contracted services. The Green Fleet Award is a comprehensive set of
criteria specifically tailored around the challenges and requirements of fleet professionals. Judging
criteria includes dedicated alternative fuel and hybrid vehicle composition, fuel usage, fuel savings,
purchasing policy, long-range planning, and other areas.
On August 13, 2024, the City of Miami Beach Fleet Division was ranked 22 nd among the Green
Fleets in North America. This honor was announced at NAFA's 2024 Sustainable Fleet Technology
Conference & Expo in Durham, North Carolina. The program recognizes peak-performing fleet
sustainability efforts and honors fleets who have enhanced practices to make a positive impact on
the environment. This annual honor recognizes organizations that execute groundbreaking and
inventive programs for their green initiatives.
The City of Miami Beach was also bestowed the honor of the Special Recognition Award for Most
Improved Fleet in the nation.
Ranking among the top Green Fleets in North America three years in a row is a testament to our
commit ment to excellence and efficiency. Through strategic initiatives, the Fleet Management
Division has implemented sustainable solutions, capital planning for greener fleet, and procuring
fuel-efficient vehicles to enhance the level of service provided to the City's user departments. The
Green Fleet Award and the Most Improved Fleet Award are much deserved and great
achievement.
