LTC 371-2024 Homeless Point In Time Census Results - August 2024MIAMI BEACH OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER LTC# TO: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: LETTER TO COMMISSION Honorable Mayor Steven Meiner and Members of the City Commission Eric Carpenter,City Manager~~ August 29,2024 Homeless Point In Time Census Results -August 2024 The purpose of this LTC is to transmit the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust's (Homeless Trust) results for the Point in Time (PIT)Census conducted on August 22-23,2024,as noted in LTC #355- 2024,dated August 20,2024. Conducted biannually in January and August, the PIT count offers a snapshot of the unhoused population at a specific moment. It reflects the conditions at that particular moment in time but does not capture the dynamic and fluctuating nature of the unhoused population.Factors such as seasonal variations, temporary crises,or individuals in transitional situations may not be fully represented. Therefore, the PIT count should be understood as an estimate rather than a precise scientific measurement of homelessness over time. Managed by the Homeless Trust, the Homeless Outreach Services Division,a division within the Department of Housing and Community Services,Miami Beach Police Department Homeless Resource Officers, and volunteers participated in the August PIT Census.According to the results by the Homeless Trust (see below),the City's unsheltered homeless population is 132.The Homeless Trust will release the sheltered population count at a later date.
