SUBJECT:Changes to the Scheduling of Building Special Magistrate Hearings
We are writing to inform you of a recent development aimed at enhancing the efficiency of our Building
Special Magistrate hearings.After a productive discussion with the City Manager,City Attorney,and City
Clerk,we have devised a plan to expedite the scheduling process for these hearings.
Effective September 26,2024,the following changes will be implemented:
•Morning Sessions:Hearings will begin at 8:00 a.m.and continue through four sessions:8:00,
9:00,10:00,and 11 :00 a.m.The current schedule consists of three sessions:9:00,10:00,and
11.00 a.m.This change will add an extra one-hour session in the morning.
•Afternoon Sessions:Hearings will begin at 1:00 p.m.,with three available sessions:1:00,1:30,
and 2:30 p.m.The current schedule includes two sessions at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m.This adjustment
will add an extra 30-minute session in the afternoon.Additionally,starting in December 2024,we
will extend the afternoon sessions to include three one-hour sessions:1:00,2:00,and 3:00 p.m.
These changes are intended to increase the number of cases that can be addressed each day,thereby
reducing the time between when cases are received by the Office of the City Clerk and the initial Special
Magistrate hearing.Coupled with the recently adopted legislative changes by the City Commission,these
adjustments are expected to improve overall service efficiency.
