International Coastal Cleanup Day 2024
I am pleased to announce that the City of Miami Beach is
collaborating with Volunteercleanup.org for the Ocean
Conservancy's 39"Annual International Coastal Cleanup
Day on September 21,2024.The event brings together
volunteers to collect litter and debris on roadsides,coastal
areas,lakes,and waterways throughout the world.
The event aims to educate the public on issues of marine
pollution and provide an opportunity to collect data from
the cleanup sites.Last year,over 318,000 volunteers
participated in this international event and collected over
5.5 million pounds of litter.A total of 2,976 participants
throughout Miami-Dade County collected 22,125 pounds
of trash.This year,there will be ten (10)cleanup sites in
Miami Beach:
1.South Pointe Beach
2.6 Street Beach
3.Lummus Park
4.Collins Park Beach
5.Monument Island
6.Palms Hotel (30 Street)Beach
7.Julia Tuttle Causeway
8.53 Street Beach
9.72 Street Beach
10.North Beach Oceanside Park
The Environment & Sustainability Department will be leading a cleanup site at Monument Island
to help keep our ocean and Biscayne Bay cleaner and healthier,protecting our vital local
ecosystems.The event will provide garbage bags,gloves,data collection cards,and a souvenir
tote bag with this year's marine animal theme,penguins.Volunteers will be shuttled to Monument
Island from Maurice Gibb Park Marina (18th St & Purdy Avenue)via boat.
The Marketing and Communications Department is sharing the event through digital
communication channels to encourage resident participation.Employees are also invited to
participate in the cleanup with their families and friends.Interested parties can register for the
