LTC 417-2024 Police Chaplain Swearing In CeremonyMIAMI BEACH OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER LTC# TO: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: LETTER TO COMMISSION Honorable Mayor Steven Meiner and Members of the City Commission Eric carpenter,City Manager ~~ September 20,2024 Police Chaplain Swearing In Ceremony The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC)is to inform the Mayor and City Commission about the upcoming Police Chaplain Swearing In Ceremony scheduled to take place on Monday, September 23,2024 at 11:30 A.M.in the MJS Community Room of the Miami Beach Police Department. The Police Chaplain Program is an integral part of the police family,creating a crucial partnership with faith-based leaders of the Miami Beach community.The chaplains provide emotional and spiritual support to police personnel especially during times of crisis.The chaplains are not only available to comfort,counsel and provide referrals to officers and staff,but also make themselves available to the victims of traumatic events. Immediately prior to the ceremony,the Police Department will be hosting an orientation and training session for the chaplains related to the notification of families of personnel who are severely injured or killed,the visiting of severely ill or injured members,the provision of counseling and personnel emotional support,the duties of attending official events,and the expectations around the delivery of invocations and benedictions when required,among other topics.Additional specialized training is also scheduled for later in the year. Because of the vital service chaplains provide the community,the Police Department honors their multidenominational contributions by officially swearing them into the Department as members.
