A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO NEGOTIATE
AN AGREEMENT WITH THE MIAMI DADE COLLEGE FOUNDATION TO
PROVIDE FUNDING FOR FIRST GENERATION COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS
FOR MIAMI BEACH RESIDENTS, WITH THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF FUNDING
FROM THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH NOT TO EXCEED $30,000 FOR THE
2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR AND EACH SUBSEQUENT SCHOOL YEAR
THEREAFTER, SUBJECT TO IDENTIFICATION OF FUNDING FOR THE 2025-
2026 SCHOOL YEAR AND ANNUAL APPROVAL BY THE CITY COMMISSION
DURING THE CITY'S BUDGETARY PROCESS FOR SUBSEQUENT SCHOOL
YEARS, SUCH AGREEMENT TO BE SUBJECT TO THE APPROVAL OF THE
CITY ATTORNEY AND THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION PRIOR TO
EXECUTION.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach is committed to supporting educational
opportunities for its residents, particularly those who are the first in their families to pursue a
college education; and
WHEREAS, the Miami Dade College Foundation has a long-standing reputation for
providing scholarships and financial assistance to students who face financial barriers to
accessing higher education; and
WHEREAS, the provision of funding for first generation college scholarships will help
ensure that Miami Beach residents have the opportunity to achieve their educational goals and
contribute positively to their community; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission believe that investing in the education of
Miami Beach residents is a vital step in promoting social and economic mobility within the
community; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach intends to provide funding not to exceed $30,000
for the 2025-2026 school year and each subsequent school year thereafter, subject to
identification of funding for the 2025-2026 school year and annual approval by the City
Commission during the budget process for subsequent school years; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager is hereby directed to negotiate an agreement with the
Miami Dade College Foundation to provide this funding for first generation college scholarships
for Miami Beach residents, with such agreement being subject to the approval of the City
Attorney and the Mayor and City Commission prior to execution.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby direct the City Manager to negotiate an agreement with the Miami Dade
College Foundation to provide funding for first generation college scholarships for Miami Beach
residents, with the total amount of funding from the City of Miami Beach not to exceed $30,000
for the 2025-2026 school year and each subsequent school year thereafter, subject to
identification of funding for the 2025-2026 school year and annual approval by the City
Commission during the City's budgetary process for subsequent school years, such agreement
to be subject to the approval of the City Attorney and the Mayor and City Commission prior to
execution.
