Resolution 2024-33259 • RESOLUTION NO. 2024-33259 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO WORK WITH THE DESIGN CONSULTANT TO EXPLORE MODIFICATIONS TO THE CURRENT CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS FOR FIRE STATION NO. 1, WHICH WAS APPROVED FOR CONSTRUCTION IN FLAMINGO PARK IN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH BY THE VOTERS IN THE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY IN A REFERENDUM ON AUGUST 20, 2024, THAT COULD PREVENT PARTIAL SHIFTING OF THE RUNNING TRACK AND FIELD WITHIN ITS CURRENT LOCATION TO ACCOMMODATE THE NEW FIRE STATION, PROVIDED THESE CHANGES DO NOT SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECT THE COST OR DURATION OF THE FIRE STATION NO. 1 CONSTRUCTION. WHEREAS, the existing Fire Station No. 1 located at 1051 Jefferson Avenue, was built in 1967 and serves the areas south of 15th Street including Star Island, Hibiscus Island, Palm Island, MacArthur Causeway up to Watson Island and Terminal Island; and WHEREAS, the existing building does not provide the facilities required to meet the anticipated increase in demands due to the growth of the area and the building does not provide sufficient parking spaces for the employees of the fire station, negatively impacting the availability of parking in the neighborhood; and WHEREAS, the need to replace the existing Fire Station No. 1 was first identified in 2015, and since then, the City has engaged in an exhaustive search of both city-owned and privately- owned properties to find a new location for a future fire station; and • WHEREAS, on August 20, 2024, in a Countywide referendum, Miami-Dade County voters gave their approval for the construction of a new Fire Station No. 1 in Flamingo Park; and WHEREAS, Flamingo Park is a 36-acre park located in the heart of South Beach at 999 11th St, which includes an 8-lane lap swimming pool plus playground, a soccer field, a baseball stadium, and a running track and field; and WHEREAS, current construction plans in connection with the relocation of Fire Station No. 1 to Flamingo Park include partial shifting of the running track and field within its current location to accommodate the new Fire Station; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission direct the City Administration to work with the design consultant to explore modifications to the construction drawings that could prevent shifting the running track and field, provided these changes do not significantly affect the cost or duration of the Fire Station No. 1 construction. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby direct the City Administration to work with the design consultant to explore modifications to the current construction drawings for Fire Station No. 1, which was approved for construction in Flamingo Park in the City of Miami Beach by the voters in the Miami-Dade County in a referendum on August 20, 2024, that could prevent partial shifting of the running track and field within its current location to accommodate the new Fire Station, provided these changes do not significantly affect the cost or duration of the Fire Station No. 1 construction.
