Resolution 2024-33264 RESOLUTION NO. 2024-33264 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE ADMINISTRATION TO ESTABLISH CONTACT WITH THE LIAISON FOR NAHARIYA, ISRAEL, A SISTER CITY, TO DETERMINE WHAT AID CAN BE AFFORDED BY THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH TO NAHARIYA IN LIGHT OF RECENT AND CONTINUING ATTACKS BY HEZBOLLAH. WHEREAS, for two decades, since September 8, 2004(Resolution No. 2004-25600), the City of Miami Beach has maintained a sister city relationship with Nahariya, Israel, reflecting a bond of friendship, mutual respect, and cooperation between the two cities; and WHEREAS, recent and continuing attacks by Hezbollah, designated by the U.S. Department of State as a foreign terrorist organization, have severely impacted Nahariya, causing significant distress and damage to the city and its residents; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission of the City of Miami Beach are deeply concerned about the safety and well-being of the people of Nahariya and wish to extend their support during this challenging time; and WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City of Miami Beach to determine what form of aid or assistance can be provided to Nahariya to help alleviate the hardships faced by its residents and to support the city's recovery and resilience efforts; and WHEREAS, the Commission desires that the Administration establish immediate contact with the designated liaison for Nahariya, Israel, to assess the situation on the ground and identify specific needs that can be met through assistance from the City of Miami Beach; and WHEREAS,the findings from this communication shall be reported back to the Mayor and City Commission for further action, including but not limited to the provision of humanitarian aid, financial support, or other forms of assistance as deemed appropriate.
