Resolution 2024-33271 RESOLUTION NO. 2024-33271 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION-OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO MEET WITH SOUTH FLORIDA SENIORS IN ACTION, INC. REPRESENTATIVES TO DEVELOP A PLAN FOR RE-OPENING THE SENIOR LUNCH ROOM AT THE SOUTH SHORE COMMUNITY CENTER, AND PROVIDE A PROGRESS REPORT TO THE CITY COMMISSION WITHIN 60 DAYS OF THIS RESOLUTION'S PASSAGE. WHEREAS, the South Shore Community Center, located at 833 6th Street plays a vital role in serving the needs of the community, including its senior population; and WHEREAS, South Florida Seniors in Action, Inc. ("SFSIA") occupies office space on the ground floor of the SSCC and provides a variety of services to the elderly community in Miami Beach. (i.e., food distribution, healthcare eligibility, etc.); and WHEREAS, the senior lunch room at the South Shore Community Center has historically provided essential services and a sense of community for our senior residents; and WHEREAS, the South Shore Community Center was one of the contenders as the site for the new Fire Station 1; and WHEREAS, on August 20, 2024, in a Countywide referendum, Miami-Dade County voters gave their approval for the construction of a new Fire Station 1 in Flamingo Park instead; and WHEREAS, in light of this, the City Administration is directed to schedule a meeting with representatives SFSIA to develop a comprehensive plan for the re-opening of the senior lunch room; and WHEREAS,the City Administration shall provide a progress report to the City Commission within 60 days of the passage of this Resolution, outlining the proposed plan for re-opening the senior lunch room at the South Shore Community Center. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the Mayor and the City hereby direct the City Administration to meet with South Florida Seniors in Action, Inc. representatives to develop a plan for re-opening the senior lunch room at the South Shore Community Center, and provide a progress report to the City Commission within 60 days of this Resolution's passage.
