PROTECTED LEFT-TURN MOVER~ENTS AT CERTAIN ALTON ROAD INTERSECTIONS
Pursuant to Commissioner Saul Gross' inquiry at the April 14, 2004 Commissio~ilme'~incL'r7
we have the following to report regarding the installation of protected left-turn tr~ic s~gna,~
at certain Alton Road intersections: o-; :~ "~'
1. Alton Road at Michigan Avenue: The intersection project, which i[~luo~d t~
installation of a southbound left turn traffic signal, was completed by C~nt~Pub~
Works in July 2002, utilizing Road Impact Fee (RIF) funds.
Alton Road at Dade BIvd: The on-going installation of the southbound left-turn
traffic signal has been temporarily halted by a Florida Department of Transportation
contractor until an ordered part arrives. The project should be completed by late
May or early June 2004.
Ththe remaining left-turn phase traffic signals for Alton Road, respectively at 8th' 11th,
15 , and 16'' Streets are under final design. This $140,000 project (from planning
to implementation) has been funded with a $70,000 FDOT grant / matched at
$70,000 by Concurrency Mitigation funds. The following is our estimated seven-
month timeline for project completion:
· Consultant completes final design plans by the end of May 2004;
· Project plans are submitted to FDOT and County Public Works for review
and permitting. This process will take approximately four weeks;
· City procurement and contract award process for construction will take
approximately four months;
· Project construction will take approximately two weeks, if all ordered traffic
signal parts are received on a timely manner; and
· The estimated project completion is November 2004.
