October 3,2024 SUBJECT:MBPD Hurricane Helene Deployment The purpose of this Letter to Commission (L TC)is to inform the Mayor and Commission of the Miami Beach Police Department's deployment to Treasure Island,Florida in support of the local community affected by Hurricane Helene. A regional relief taskforce incorporating police personnel from the City of Coral Gables,the City of Miami,and the City of Miami Beach has deployed to the City of Treasure Island.The Miami Beach Police Department (MBPD)assigned a team of five officers,one sergeant and two professional staff members for technical and operational support.Due to the disastrous effects of Hurricane Helene to the state's Gulf coast,the City of Treasure Island finds itself without key government entities to include City Hall and the operational capacity of a police department. The taskforce was deployed on October 3,2024 and is expected to remain on site providing relief to the City of Treasure Island for one week.Additional extensions to the deployment or the relieving of the MBPD officers currently assigned with additional officers will be reassessed by the taskforce over the coming days. The Administration fully supports the deployment and stands with the people of the City of Treasure Island as their community recovers from the effects of this storm. WJ/cmrp
