UPDATED SCHEDULE: Art in Public Places Maintenance -Tobias Rehberger,
eloquent south pointe park pier gate (2014)
The purpose of this Letter to Commission (L TC) is to inform you that given the expected inclement
weather resulting from Hurricane Milton, conservation and maintenance work for the Tobias
Rehberger sculpture, eloquent south pointe park pier gate, (2014) ("Artwork"), located at the
entrance to the pier at South Pointe Park, has been re-scheduled to begin on October 15, 2024
instead of October 8, 2024 as reported in L TC #434-2024.
Conservators from RLA Conservation of Art and Architecture will be on site at the entrance to the
pier at South Pointe Park, performing the work to remove the gate beginning at 7:00 AM on the
new dates of Tuesday, October 15, 2024, and Wednesday, October 16, 2024. Removal of the
gate will require the use of a telehandler and other heavy machinery. The entrance to the pier will
need to be closed to the public for approximately two (2) days from 7:00 AM -4:00 PM while de
installation occurs.
The Parks and Recreation Department will implement barriers at the job site during de-installation
and deploy a temporary gate while the Artwork is conserved offsite.
During the conservation care, conservators will sandblast existing coatings and corrosion, remove
extant dust and debris, add any structural sleeves removed during de-installation, and apply a
marine-grade primer and the appropriate colored paint layers approved by the artist's studio.
Offsite treatment is estimated to take approximately four (4) to seven (7) weeks.
Reinstallation is estimated to take place the week of November 18, 2024. This process will also
require the use of a telehandler and other heavy machinery. Public access to the pier will be
closed for approximately two (2) days during this week from 7:00 AM -4:00 PM.
