LTC 453-2024 MBPD Hurricane Milton DeploymentMIAMI BEACH OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER LTC# 453-2024 TO: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: LETTER TO COMMISSION Honorable Mayor Steven Meiner and Members of the City Commission Eric Carpenter, City Manager�� October 14, 2024 MBPD Hurricane Milton Deployment The purpose of this Letter to Commission (L TC) is to inform the Mayor and Commission of the Miami Beach Police Department's deployment to Hillsborough County on the Florida West Coast in support of the local community affected by Hurricane Milton. Due to the disastrous effects of Hurricane Milton, the second hurricane to hit the Gulf Coast in the span of two weeks, the area finds itself greatly affected. In coordination with the Miami Dade County Chiefs of Police Association, the Florida Police Chiefs Association and the Florida Department of Emergency Management, the regional relief taskforce incorporating police personnel from the City of Coral Gables, the City of Miami, and the City of Miami Beach will now deploy an additional team to the Florida West Coast. The team previously assigned under the taskforce to assist the City of Treasure Island completed its deployment on October 8, 2024 and returned to normal operations. The Miami Beach Police Department (MBPD) assigned the Police Mobile Command Vehicle and a team of thirteen (13) officers, four (4) sergeants, one (1) lieutenant, (1) captain, one (1) Victim Advocate and K-9, one (1) Property & Evidence unit employee and one (1) Maintenance Service Worker fuel truck operator to the taskforce. Additionally, the Administration will also deploy (2) two mechanics and two (2) maintenance workers from the Facilities & Fleet Management Department for a total of 26 City of Miami Beach employees assigned to the taskforce. The taskforce will deploy on October 14, 2024 and is expected to remain on site providing relief to the area for one week. Additional extensions to the deployment or the replacement of MBPD officers currently assigned will be reassessed by the taskforce over the coming days. The Administration fully supports this second deployment and stands with the people of the Florida West Coast as their communities recover from the effects of this second storm. WJ/cmrp
