Dear Honorable Mayor and City Commission:
The Transportation,Parking,and Bicycle-Pedestrian Facilities Committee (TPBPFC)held its
hybrid meeting on Monday,October 14,2024.The Committee discussed the subject
matter and recognized challenges related to pedestrian and bicycle/micro-mobility traffic
on the Beachwalk.
The TPBPFC unanimously passed a motion to submit the following recommendation to the
Mayor and City Commission.
We request that our elected officials explore the installation of temporary alternative
pathways, such as blue path mats used during special events, along the sand, east of the
dunes. These paths would run parallel to the existing paved Beachwalk from 15th to 36th
Street,as well as along Ocean Terrace.
The goal is to evaluate whether a dedicated, permanent pathway would enhance foot and
bicycle/e-mobility traffic, expand it if successful, until such time as a permanent solution
can be found. We believe this change would significantly improve safety for pedestrians,
cyclists,and those using micro-mobility devices.
As an advisory Committee,we urge the Mayor and City Commission to support this motion.
Sincerely,
Transportation,Parking &Bicycle-Pedestrian Facilities Committee
