A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE
ADMINISTRATION TO IDENTIFY APPROPRIATE STREET CORNER
LOCATIONS AND MATERIAL OPTIONS FOR THE INSTALLATION
OF SUITABLE MARKERS WITHIN THE NORTH BEACH TOWN
CENTER DISTRICT, INCLUDING THE REPLACEMENT OF EXISTING
MARKERS THAT MAY BE DESTROYED OR DAMAGED, IN ORDER
TO MAINTAIN THE NEIGHBORHOOD'S HISTORIC SIGNIFICANCE
AND ENHANCING ITS SENSE OF IDENTITY; AND FURTHER
DIRECTING THE ADMINISTRATION TO IDENTIFY AND INCLUDE
THE NECESSARY FUNDING FOR THE PRODUCTION AND
INSTALLATION OF THE MARKERS INTO THE PROJECT'S SCOPE
OF WORK.
WHEREAS, the planned Town Center District in North Beach (the "NoBe Town
Center") runs from 69th Street to 73rd Street, extending from the ocean to Normandy Isle;
and
WHEREAS, the center of community life in North Beach is found within the NoBe
Town Center, along 71st Street from Collins Avenue to Normandy Isle and includes two
blocks in either direction down the cross streets (the "Neighborhood"); and
WHEREAS, composed mostly of commercial and civic spaces, the NoBe Town
Center is intended to be the center of activity for North Beach, fostering a vibrant and
cohesive community environment; and
WHEREAS, the Neighborhood currently features stamped concrete markers on
some street corners, and it is the City's goal to ensure that any destroyed or damaged
markers are replaced, and to plan for additional markers where appropriate; and
WHEREAS, the NoBe Town Center is part of a historic neighborhood, and the
markers are designed to reflect the historical significance of the area while enhancing its
sense of place and identity; and
WHEREAS, installing appropriate markers, which may consist of stamped
concrete, brass plaques or other signage (at the discretion of the City's Planning
Department and Historic Preservation Officer) on street corners within the NoBe Town
Center would enhance the area's sense of place and identity, while also providing
directional information for residents and visitors; and
WHEREAS, funding will need to be identified for the installation of the street
markers and included in the scope of work for the Project; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission desire to direct the Administration to
identify appropriate street corner locations and material options for the installation of the
markers within the NoBe Town Center, including the replacement of existing markers that
may be destroyed or damaged, with the planned path and costs options to be included in
the statement of work for the NoBe Town Center.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby direct the Administration to identify appropriate street corner
locations and material options for the installation of suitable markers within the North
Beach Town Center district, including the replacement of existing markers that may be
destroyed or damaged, in order to maintain the neighborhood's historic significance and
enhancing its sense of identity; and further direct the Administration to identify and include
the necessary funding for the production and installation of the markers into the project's
scope of work.
