A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, RESCINDING THE CEREMONIAL KEY TO
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH FROM SEAN COMBS.
WHEREAS, in 2015, the Mayor and City Commission presented music artist and
entrepreneur Sean Combs, aka "P. Diddy" with a ceremonial key to the in recognition of Mr.
Combs' contributions to the music industry and his role in organizing the Revolt Music Conference
in Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, the City takes pride in its reputation as a welcoming destination for artists,
musicians, and creative professionals from around the world, and strives to maintain this
reputation through thoughtful consideration of the individuals and events it chooses to honor; and
WHEREAS, the values and image portrayed by public figures honored by the City
should reflect the core principles and aspirations of our diverse and inclusive community;
and
WHEREAS, on June 26, 2024, after a released video of Mr. Combs attacking R&B singer
and ex-girlfriend, Casandra Ventura (Cassie), the Mayor and City Commission adopted
Resolution No. 2024-33129, formally rescinding the proclamation designating October 13, 2016
as "Sean `biddy' Combs Day;" and
WHEREAS, Mr. Combs' recent arrest by federal agents in connection with alleged sex
trafficking and sexual misconduct have raised concerns about whether Mr. Combs' public persona
aligns with the values and image that the City of Miami Beach seeks to project; and
WHEREAS, it is the duty of the Mayor and City Commission to regularly reassess and,
when necessary, reconsider previous actions to ensure they continue to serve the best interests
of our residents and visitors; and
WHEREAS, upon reflection, the Mayor and City Commission have determined that Mr.
Combs persona and reputation is no longer in harmony with the City's values of safety, community
well-being, and respect, and wish to revoke the ceremonial key to the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby rescind the ceremonial key to the City of Miami Beach from Sean Combs.
