SUBJECT:Sister Cities Committee Motions
The purpose of this Letter to Commission ("LTC")is to inform the Mayor and City Commission
of motions made,and unanimously approved,by the Sister Cities Committee (SCC)on
November 14,2024 and January 6,2025.
Members present on November 14,2024:Moni Cohen,Laura Levey,Matti Bower,Allison
Buttacavoli,John Ospitia,Janinha Piazzetta,Marffa Amezcua,and Blanca Villarello.
Motion #1:The Sister Cities Committee recommends the approval of a budget,not to
exceed $3,000,to support a Sister Cities event to honor the Swiss Chamber of Commerce
and Sister City Basel,Switzerland on December 3,2024.
Members present on January 6,2025:Moni Cohen,Laura Levey,Allison Buttacavoli,John
Ospitia,Janinha Piazzetta,and Blanca Villarello.
Motion #2:The Sister Cities Committee recommends sending a delegation to Sister City
Fujisawa,Japan and a budget to support the delegation,in an amount not to exceed $6,000,
to represent Miami Beach and participate in the Shanan Fujisawa City Marathon on January
26,2025.
Motion #3:The Sister Cities Committee recommends the approval of a budget,not to
exceed $100,to host an event to celebrate and promote the International Cultural
Partnership Project between Dance NOW!Miami and Danca em Dialogos in Sister City
Cascais,Portugal on February 17,2025.
Motion #4:The Sister Cities Committee recommends sending a delegation to Sister City
Cascais,Portugal,and a budget to support the delegation,in an amount not to exceed
$2,000,to represent Miami Beach at the International Cultural Partnership Project at the
Dance NOW!And Danca em Dialogos performance on March 12,2025 at the Vila das Artes
de Cascais/Cascais Village of the Arts.
