LTC 024-2025 (b) Art Deco Painting Incentive ProgramMIAMI BEACH OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER LTC# TO: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: LETTER TO COMMISSION Honorable Mayor Steven Meiner and Members of the City Commission Eric Carpenter,City Manager~fi>lt..J=.C • January 17,2025 Launch of the Art Deco Painting Incentive Program The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC)is to inform the Mayor and City Commission about the launch of the Art Deco Painting Incentive Program ("Program'),a new initiative designed to revitalize Miami Beach's iconic Art Deco architecture by encouraging property owners and tenants to refresh their buildings in the Miami Beach Architectural District with pastel colors emblematic of art deco design. In celebration of the 100"year of Art Deco,the pilot Program will officially launch during Miami Design Preservation League's 48 Annual Art Deco Weekend,taking place on January 18-20,2025,further strengthening the city's reputation as a global leader in architectural preservation and cultural innovation. Program Overview: Authorized by City Commission Resolution No.2024-33363,the Program {flyer attached)will provide matching grants covering up to 50%of eligible project costs,with a maximum City contribution of $20,000 per property.The Program invites property owners and tenants of contributing historic buildings within the Miami Beach Architectural District,generally located between 5"Street and 23°Street,along Ocean Drive,Collins Avenue,and Washington Avenue,to participate in this collaborative effort to preserve and enhance the city's historic landscape. The City is proud to partner with renowned British designer Barbara Hulanicki,a pivotal figure in architectural revitalization.Hulanicki will lend her historical expertise and design consultation,ensuring authenticity and adherence to the Leonard Horowitz pastel color palette,which played a transformative role in the Art Deco resurgence.With an initial budget allocation of $88,000,the Program aims to support a minimum of four projects in its first phase.
