Launch of the Art Deco Painting Incentive Program
The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC)is to inform the Mayor and City Commission about the
launch of the Art Deco Painting Incentive Program ("Program'),a new initiative designed to revitalize
Miami Beach's iconic Art Deco architecture by encouraging property owners and tenants to refresh their
buildings in the Miami Beach Architectural District with pastel colors emblematic of art deco design.
In celebration of the 100"year of Art Deco, the pilot Program will officially launch during Miami Design
Preservation League's 48 Annual Art Deco Weekend, taking place on January 18-20,2025,further
strengthening the city's reputation as a global leader in architectural preservation and cultural
innovation.
Program Overview:
Authorized by City Commission Resolution No.2024-33363,the Program {flyer attached)will provide
matching grants covering up to 50%of eligible project costs, with a maximum City contribution of
$20,000 per property. The Program invites property owners and tenants of contributing historic buildings
within the Miami Beach Architectural District, generally located between 5"Street and 23°Street,along
Ocean Drive,Collins Avenue, and Washington Avenue,to participate in this collaborative effort to
preserve and enhance the city's historic landscape.
The City is proud to partner with renowned British designer Barbara Hulanicki,a pivotal figure in
architectural revitalization.Hulanicki will lend her historical expertise and design consultation, ensuring
authenticity and adherence to the Leonard Horowitz pastel color palette, which played a transformative
role in the Art Deco resurgence. With an initial budget allocation of $88,000,the Program aims to
support a minimum of four projects in its first phase.
