A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE ADMINISTRATION TO
PRIORITIZE FUNDING FOR THE INSTALLATION OF SOLAR PANELS AT THE
FLEET AND FACILITIES BUILDING IN THE FISCAL YEAR 2026 BUDGET.
WHEREAS, on July 26, 2023, Commissioner Laura Dominguez referred a discussion item
to the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee (the "Committee") to explore
options for incorporating solar energy panels on select City buildings or other public spaces as
part of the City's sustainability and energy efficiency efforts; and
WHEREAS, the Committee discussed this item at its meeting on September 26, 2023,
and accepted the Administration's recommendation to proceed with the Fleet and Facilities
Building as a pilot municipal building solar installation project; and
WHEREAS, the installation of solar panels at the Fleet and Facilities Building would
represent an important step toward the City of Miami Beach's goal of reducing its carbon footprint
and embracing renewable energy sources; and
WHEREAS, solar energy provides numerous environmental and economic benefits,
including reducing greenhouse gas emissions, lowering energy costs, and enhancing energy
security by reducing dependency on nonrenewable energy sources; and
WHEREAS, the Fleet and Facilities Department included the installation of solar panels
at the Fleet and Facilities Building as a priority in the 2025 fiscal year budget; however, this
initiative was not selected for funding; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission recognizes the importance of continued efforts toward
sustainability, energy efficiency, and environmental responsibility, and desires to prioritize funding
for the installation of solar panels at the Fleet and Facilities Building in the fiscal year 2026 budget.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission
hereby direct the City Administration to prioritize funding for the installation of solar panels at the
fleet and facilities building in the fiscal year 2026 budget.
