A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE AD
HOC PERMITTING PROCESS ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO PRIORITIZE THE
EFFORT TO STRENGTHEN THE INFRASTRUCTURE FOR PRIVATE
PROVIDERS BY CREATING A PRIVATE PROVIDER SECTION WITHIN THE
BUILDING DEPARTMENT, AND DIRECTING THE ADMINISTRATION TO TAKE
ALL NECESSARY STEPS TO IMPLEMENT THIS RECOMMENDATION AS
SOON AS REASONABLY PRACTICABLE.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach recognizes the critical importance of a streamlined,
transparent, and efficient permitting process for the continued growth and development of the city;
and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission established the Ad Hoc Permitting Process
Advisory Committee in February 2024 to evaluate and recommend improvements to the City's
permitting process, particularly in enhancing the capacity and service levels for Miami Beach
residents; and
WHEREAS, the Ad Hoc Permitting Process Advisory Committee has completed its review
and, after careful consideration, recommended through a motion made by the Committee at their
December 17, 2024 meeting, that the City prioritize strengthening the infrastructure for private
providers by creating a Private Provider Section within the Building Department to improve the
coordination and oversight of private providers, thus supporting timely and efficient permit
processing; and
WHEREAS, the creation of a dedicated Private Provider Section within the Building
Department would improve service delivery, enhance regulatory oversight, reduce delays, and
provide better communication between private providers, applicants, and the City, ensuring
continued growth and adherence to the highest quality standards; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission desires that the Administration implement the
Committee's recommendation and believes that the creation of this section will result in a more
efficient permitting process, enhancing the city's ability to manage and support development
projects while maintaining high levels of safety, compliance, and customer satisfaction.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission
hereby accept the recommendation of the Ad Hoc Permitting Process Advisory Committee to
prioritize the effort to strengthen the infrastructure for private providers by creating a Private
Provider Section within the Building Department, and direct the Administration to take all
necessary steps to implement this recommendation asrsoon as reasonably practicable.
