Resolution 2025-33487RESOLUTION NO. 2025-33487
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE ADMINISTRATION TO INSTALL LUSH,
MATURE PLANTS AT THE SOUTHERN LANDING OF THE 5TH STREET
PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE BEHIND THE ICON CONDOMINIUM.
WHEREAS, the 5th Street Pedestrian Bridge is a critical infrastructure element that connects the
Baywalk south of 5th Street with the Baywalk north of 5th Street, providing safe and efficient pedestrian
access across the city's waterfront; and
WHEREAS, in connection with the construction of the 5th Street Pedestrian Bridge, mature
landscaping located behind the Icon Condominium will need to be removed to accommodate the project;
and
WHEREAS, the proposed replacement landscaping for the area includes the planting of
seedlings, which will require several years to mature, potentially leading to a temporary loss of the lush,
vibrant appearance of the area; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission desires to maintain the beauty and aesthetic value of this
important location by ensuring that the landscaping that replaces the trees and vegetation removed
during construction will be dense, lush, and mature, providing an immediate enhancement to the area's
visual appeal and creating a welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike; and
WHEREAS, ideally, the replacement landscaping will include plants that are tolerant of sea spray
such as Brazilian Beauty standard trees, clusia hedges and green island ficus hedges; and
WHEREAS, the planting of ficus repens vines around the bases of the concrete columns so the
vines grow up along the columns would help beautify the landing area for the pedestrian bridge; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission seeks to ensure that the landscaping at the southern landing
of the 5th Street Pedestrian Bridge behind the Icon Condominium will reflect the high aesthetic standards
of the City and contribute to the overall beauty of the public spaces along the Baywalk.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby direct the
Administration to install lush, mature plants at the southern landing of the 5th Street Pedestrian Bridge
behind the Icon Condominium, ensuring that the replacement landscaping is dense, lush, and
aesthetically pleasing in order to maintain the beauty of the area during and after the completion of the
bridge project.
